How to Make Your Own Pumpkin Spiced Latte

Like so many of you, the PSL has captured my heart. It’s sugary, delicious and expensive so goes against everything I believe in but I love it. Starbucks first introduced the drink in 2003 and it’s hard to ignore the desire, so I’ve put together a post on how you can get the yummy taste at cheaper prices and lower calorie options.

Considering that Starbucks PSL at at minimum 177cals and £3.00, I strongly advise you making them at home for the autumn taste. However if you can’t resist starbucks, at the bottom I’ve included a calorie count for the different ways to request your Pumpkin Spiced Late to be made.

If you want the coffee-on-the-go feel then remember to invest in a good thermos (I have and recommend this one from Lifeventure) or buy your own disposable paper cups for the authentic coffee shop feel.

For the skinny syrup, I use Jordan’s Skinny Mixes brand which you can easily pick up from shops on eBay or amazing for around £10 which gives you 24servings (according to the bottle but I think you get more).

The ‘Lowest-Calorie’ Way

The Cold Coffee way down below is very low-cal but if you still want that hot mug in the morning then this is the best way to keep the cals down.

1 cup skinny milk
1 tablespoon pumpkin spice skinny syrup
1 cup black coffee

Brew a black coffee in a jar. Whilst brewing, into a mason jar add the milk and the syrups. Seal and shake until frothy. Remove the lid and microwave to 1-2mins. Pour the hot milk into the mug with the coffee in.

Cost Per Drink: 63p
Time In The Morning: 5mins

The ‘Simple To Do’ Way

1 cup skinny milk
1 tablespoon pumpkin spice skinny syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla simple skinny syrup
1 cup black coffee
Whipped cream to garnish
Pre-made pumpkin spice batch (¼ ginger, ¼ nutmeg, ¼ cinnamon and ¼ ground clove) to garnish

Brew a coffee in a jar. Whilst brewing, into a mason jar add the milk and both syrups. Seal and shake until frothy. Remove the lid and microwave to 1-2mins. Pour the hot milk into the mug with the coffee in, whipped cream on top and a pinch of pumpkin spice seasoning.

Calories: 100cals (mostly the whipped cream and milk)
Cost Per Drink: £1.23
Time In The Morning: 5mins

The ‘Iced Coffee’ Way

This drink is great for hot mornings but remembering to brew 24hrs in advance is a faff. I usually brew some on a Friday morning so I can grab glasses over the weekend.

Ground coffee
1 tablespoon pumpkin spice skinny syrup

Brew some coffee in a French Press then pour into a jug, adding 1 tablespoon of syrup per drink you’ll get out of it. Then store in the fridge for 24hrs. If you want, also pour some into an ice tray to have with the drink later.

Calories: 10cals
Cost Per Drink: 55p
Time In The Morning: 5 seconds to pour
