Are You Hungry? But Really, Are You…?

How can you stop yourself snacking? It seems like every time I used to pass by the kitchen to go to the bathroom I bring something back to snack on. That would be 100cals a pop minimum. I try to drink 2L of water a day so that’s a lot of bathroom breaks and a lot of snacks! Well it all changed when I heard about something called The Apple Test. Let me explain…

Planned and healthy snacks are amazing for you and you should be planning to eat every 3 hours and within 30mins of waking up to keep your metabolism up. But mindless snacking will lead to weight gain. It’s sometimes hard to distinguish between the physical actual hunger and emotional / mental hunger. You need to know if you’re actually hungry rather than bored.

So, next time you’re craving a snack, ask yourself if you want an apple as a snack. Now I like apples a normal amount. I don’t love them, I don’t loathe them. Just a standard human amount. This trick works for me as if I’m actually hungry I would murder a bushel of apples! But if I’m just craving some crisps or chocolate, I realise I’m close to mindless snacking and I do something else.
